can continue with our investigation as get the latest from our reporter in plymouth and john henderson who john joins me now. john what more are we hearing from the please. not a great deal at the moment. fairly light police presence here this is the short. concerned were last night at about quarter to seven. man enters the betting shop. wearing apparently a gas mask. when phone parent lee also had them what looks like a pistol as you heard there from the police officer. was immediately set upon by a couple of the customers. managed to wrestle him to the ground. and i've just spoken to a chap who came into the shop. immediately after that and was he was he saw this and he saw two people holding the chap down. didn't see any gas mask apparently. but he was then asked to leave the shop immediately by the people who were inside he said those two people holding the chap down. so what happened was the police were called they arrived. they quickly realized that it was a slight problem and they needed to resuscitate the gentleman. they call paramedics and after three of them had come and been

correspondent john harwood. john, my question to you, is this a reflection of the dysfunction in congress or are we looking at folks who face tough re-election battles? >> reporter: a little bit of both. history tells us 2014 will be a difficult year for democrats. that influenced harkin and jay rockefeller. saxby chambliss may have faced a primary challenge. you also can't overlook the effects of age. both rockefeller and harkin are over 70 years old. chambliss would be over 70 by the time of the 2014 election. >> is there the potential for a fundamental change in ideology in both houses? >> reporter: not a fundamental change in ideology, but you do see the senate becoming somewhat fresher. already 60 out of a hundred senators came, when barack obama came in 2005 or later, and fresh members of the senate are more impatient with the dysfunction of the place. we saw some of the effects this past week with the agreement among republicans and democrats to slightly streamline filibuster procedures. >> all right. john harwood, good to have you on with us tonight. thanks. >>> as secretary of st

't strike john mccain when he admitted his own party had a problem. there seems to be some truth talking, some movement towards compromise. are you optimistic about this? >> well, first of all, i'm glad senator mccain said what he did because we don't want the republicans to get any credit for having a moral -- they're doing this because they can read election returns, and they've got to fwet this issue at least beyond them. they have to understand there's a price to pay. do they pay the price if they're obstructionist on 100% background check? do they pay the price if they're obstructionist on high capacity magazines in they have to make that decision. on the fiscal cliff themselves, do they pay the price if they don't do something that is commonsense and a workable approach to debt? energy. all these things. we like wee winding tape to 2007 and -- george w. bush is really -- that tape speaks for itself. gornl bush did in 2007 introduce immigration reform that went basically nowhere. he made personal calls to members of his own party to get it passed. only 12 of the 49 republican senato
